4 Ways Jeté Uses AI to Build a Dance Community
Share
When I started Jeté (pronounced zhuh-TAY), I knew I wanted to create something special. I wanted to create apparel that celebrates dancers of every age and stage. But as a solo entrepreneur managing everything from design to customer service, I quickly realized I needed a dance partner of a different kind: artificial intelligence. Here's how AI has become an integral part of Jeté's mission to build an inclusive dance family, one design at a time.
1. Content Creation That Speaks to Every Dancer
Creating content that resonates with our diverse community that ranges from 3-year-old tiny dancers to seasoned professionals really requires understanding nuanced preferences across age groups and dance styles. AI helps me:
-
Craft inclusive messaging that speaks to jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, modern, and contemporary dancers alike. This requires a little help from me especially when the messaging doesn’t feel authentic. For example, if AI starts using words like “twirl” instead of turn or pirouette or the dreaded “toe dancing” reference when it should be “on pointe.”
-
Generate engaging social media content for our “Mover of the Week" series, ensuring every spotlight feels authentic and celebratory
-
Develop seasonal campaigns aligned with competition seasons, Nutcracker performances, and recital periods
2. Smart Customer Support for Our Dance Family
As the sole operator of Jeté, providing timely, empathetic customer support is crucial. AI assists me in:
-
Crafting personalized responses to Instagram comments and messages that maintain our warm, trustworthy brand voice
-
Addressing common concerns about print-on-demand quality and sizing with consistent, helpful information
- Creating comprehensive care guides for all of ur products
3. Strategic Business Planning
Growing from 3 sales in our first two weeks to targeting 500 sales monthly requires smart planning. AI helps me:
-
Analyze market opportunities across our target cities (Atlanta, LA, NYC, Chicago)
-
Develop partnership strategies for dance studios and instructor collaborations
-
Plan inventory testing to understand which designs, colors, and product types resonate with different age segments
-
Create outreach materials for studio partnerships that feel authentic, not transactional
4. Design and Product Development: Where Human Expertise Matters Most
Here's where I draw a clear line: as a trained graphic designer, I don't use AI design tools for our apparel graphics. I’ve tested many different tools and will continue testing them as I hope one day it can assist in the design process. However, the quality simply doesn't meet my standards at the moment, and more importantly, AI lacks the nuanced understanding of dance technique that our community deserves.
I've noticed AI-generated dance imagery often features technical errors that only dancers would catch like, turned-in feet when they should be turned out, sickled feet in ballet positions, or poor body lines that would make any dancer cringe. These details matter deeply to our audience and to me.
Instead, AI supports the strategy behind the designs:
-
Brainstorming design concepts that celebrate dance culture while avoiding trademarked phrases
-
Developing product descriptions that capture the passion behind each hand-crafted piece
-
Creating marketing copy for our premium collections that justifies the investment
Every dancer silhouette, every piece of terminology, every visual element is created with the precision and respect that dance technique demands. This is where my background as both a dancer and designer becomes irreplaceable.
The Human Touch Remains Essential
While AI amplifies my capabilities, the heart of Jeté remains deeply personal. Every design decision, customer interaction, and brand choice reflects my journey from professional dancer to entrepreneur. AI doesn't replace the authentic connection we build with our dance family, it enhances my ability to serve them better.
Looking Forward
As we work forward, AI continues to evolve as our behind-the-scenes choreographer, helping orchestrate the complex dance of running a business. From content calendars aligned with competition seasons to influencer outreach strategies, AI helps me stay nimble and responsive to our community's needs.
To fellow entrepreneurs in the creative space: AI isn't about losing the personal touch that makes your brand special. It's about amplifying your unique voice so you can reach more people who need what you're creating.
Whether you're a dance teacher looking for authentic apparel for your studio, a parent shopping for your little performer, or a professional dancer seeking premium pieces that understand your journey, Jeté is here for you. And with AI as our backstage support, we're just getting started.
